1st Generation Club (1GC) aims to cultivate a space where first-generation students can connect, share experiences, and gain resources to achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals.
1GC was established in Spring 2014 within the Lee Business School to offer guidance, support, and networking opportunities to first-generation students. 1GC began with just a handful of students, with the goal of bringing first-generation students together.
1GC has since opened to all students campus-wide, and now, 1GC has well over 330 members! 1GC continues to grow by the day and continues to host many engaging, academic and social events throughout the fall and spring semesters. We are dedicated to developing ways to support first-generation students by providing a sense of community, belonging, and pride among students so they can achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals.
Are you a first-generation college student? A first-generation college student is someone whose parents did not complete high school or a four-year college degree and who is entering college with limited knowledge of the traditions and patterns of college life & academia. You would still be a first-generation student if your sibling went to college before you, if your parents went to college in another country, or if your parents started college but didn't finish! Regardless of your status, our meetings are open to everyone at UNLV! :)
